Halloween has recently passed, and if you’re like any Trick-or-Treat participant, you thoughtfully overbought and have a frightening abundance of candy left over— and that’s absolutely okay! (Especially if you were planning for that *wink wink.*) In the event that you perhaps don’t want to hoard your leftovers all to yourself, I’ve found some ways to repurpose your Halloween spoils into other, irresistible (and giftable) baked treats! After all, you’ve got to make room for the influx of Thanksgiving goodies somehow, so let’s dish out that candy!

1. Smores
Hopefully, you live somewhere less temperate than Florida and are enjoying weather worthy of November. Regardless, if fire-hazards aren’t part of your seasonal plans, that doesn’t mean smores are out of the question! Leftover chocolate bars can easily be turned into baked smores with the simple additions of graham crackers and marshmallows, as well as a quick broil in the oven. There’s a fiery, wood-smoked flavor note lost in the convection the oven, but the promise of unburnt marshmallows is comforting enough to outweigh the loss. Kids love ’em, adults love ’em– and they’re quick to make!

2. Cakes
I’ll admit it, sometimes I’m too lazy to go through the effort to build a cake from scratch and I instead resort to the trusty boxed cake mix. And honestly, it’s easier to hide my shame with some tasty toppings. All those leftover, miniature chocolates really come in handy when upgrading a cake from a C+ to a solid A- without requiring much more effort from you. Take any flavor of cake mix, bake it and glaze the cake with either frosting or ganache (my go-to is always ganache because it balances out the overly-sweet, preservative taste of store-bought mix with the decadent richness of chocolate) before unwrapping all those little miniatures and sprinkling them on top. All of them work, and it’s even better if you have the chance to freeze and crush them first so the flavors are more evenly spread and there’s more to munch on!

3. Cookies
And finally to deal with all those sickeningly sweet hard candies. They’re certainly not my favorite but they can be saved through the power of baking! Buzzfeed has a wonderful recipe for these cookies called Aquarium Cookies, requiring a shortbread cookie dough and the non-chocolate (a.k.a. unimportant) hard candies left to rot at the bottom of the bowl like the disappointments they are. Unwrap and pop them in the oven within a mold of the cookie dough and watch as they melt into the shape they were left in. When they cool they return to their hard consistency and clear color so that it looks like glass within the cookie! Definitely something to brag about at your next event when you dazzle your guests with glassy cookies! (Or possibly concern them, either can be acceptable depending on your purpose.)
